A Gathering Place

The Gordon Parry Centre is a resource centre and day-out venue. It is a partnership
between YAMSEN:SpeciallyMusic and artforms, the Leeds schools' music and arts service.

Our aim at the Gordon Parry Centre is to create unique and special musical opportunities that are accessible to everyone, including those:

  • who have learning and/or behavioural difficulties
  • who have sensory impairments
  • who are on the autistic spectrum
  • who have complex and multiple learning needs

We have a team of dedicated specialist music and arts staff who work in both the centre and in schools and offer training, support and advice. The centre is based in a suite of rooms in the West Park Centre and houses a library, therapy room, instrument library and a 'Sound and Light' multisensory room.

We offer bespoke short- and long-term music projects and partnerships which we carry out in schools and in the Gordon Parry Centre rooms. Our projects explore instruments and themes, and can include other arts. Many projects start as curriculum enrichment activities. Recent projects have included:

  • "Weather Days" - a series of workshops for children with complex and multiple learning needs (CMLN) using resonance board-based activities
  • "Cyclical Patterns" -a two-day project for KS3 children on the autistic spectrum, exploring cyclical patterns in art and through playing music on the gamelan

In addition, the centre runs:

  • A Saturday Morning Music Technolgy Group for children with severe physical and sensory disabilities
  • Music Therapy and Intensive Interaction
