It’s That Time of Year AgainThis Wednesday sees the 28th YSM Town Hall Christmas Concert. Last year as so many of us remember snow closed play, and the event was re-run at the West Park Centre in January. For those of us organising and performing at this event, it was quite hard to re-motivate ourselves to be Christmassy festive in the cold January après-holiday weekend. But once the audience was in and those seasonal tunes struck up, we just got into it. And we liked the atmosphere of the West Park Centre. The “stage” was on the same level as the audience, and Mavis had everyone joining in with just about everything. Plus the carpark! And the access! The West Park Centre is on Spen Lane just off Leeds Ringroad. No need to muddle round the Loop for anyone travelling into Leeds Centre; no need to get into the city centre traffic at all in fact, especially for those travelling from other towns. And then the biggest carpark, and the best disabled access. You can whizz those wheelchairs out of the carpark and into the building just like that! However, when it comes to architecture, prestige, and a sense of history, I have to concede that Leeds Town Hall wins hands down. West Park will be a hard act to follow, but we will manage. See you all on the 7th. Victoria Jaquiss YAMSEN: Specially Music Blog December 2011 Click here to read previous Yamsen blogs |
