Egypt Days

Yamsen celebrated Egypt Past and Present
with three Multisensory days in May for children and adults with complex and multiple learning needs and two summer music days for children with learning difficulties.

These days are an escape into a vibrant environment full of new things to do, see, hear, touch and smell. We pride ourselves on providing live music throughout the day.

Our activities this year were inspired by a trip to Egypt. We started our days by arriving at the international airport, waving flags and dancing to music. Then we explored the sights, sounds and smells in our bazaar, handling props and making traffic noises! We joined together to go through the desert and down the Nile, created a drumming circle and made time to do other activities in our own groups at our own pace.

We explored the scary Pharaoh's tomb and worked together to erect a temple. Then we hopped onto camels to cross the desert and get back home for some bellydancing celebrations!

From our clients:

'I feel that you tailor the day to meet the needs of students with complex learning difficulties: Live music is often very motivating for people with complex needs and the musicians come close enough for students to respond to and even touch the instruments.

'The pace is extremely appropriate allowing students time to react and respond before moving on to the next. There is a good selection of visual, auditory and olfactory stimuli - all offered in an appropriate format which students can handle, and no one is worried if someone throws it as often happens!

'The volunteers are very patient, talk to our students appropriately and know how to allow enough time for them to respond in their own ways. It is one of the best days on our calendar and we really look forward to going! - I just wish it could be more frequently.'

A Big Thanks to Greggs and the Red Nose Community Cash managed by Leeds Community Foundation for supporting our multisensory and summer music days.
